Martin formed BLOK furniture company to manufacture his own designs for retail and contract sale.

Martin graduated from Central School of Arts & Crafts, London in 1953. He spent the next twenty two years working as a freelance designer for clients in the UK, Italy, Germany and Switzerland.

In 1975 Martin opened his own workshop, designing and making furniture to commission. Major commissions include public seating for The National Gallery, the Council Chamber for The General Dental Council and furniture for Tate St.Ives.
